We all need to pray for our President-elect as fervently and deeply today as before we knew who the man would be at the head of our government.
I would argue that McCain would have been closer to victory...and might have won in fact...if he had been more like the man who gave the concession speech last night and less the man he's been for some months previous.
But that's just my two cents. And we know how much pennies are worth, right?
As much vitriol from the Left over Prop 8 defeat, I am that much discouraged that unborn life is no more protected than it was yesterday. States could have sent clear signal about protecting life, and once again the American brought shame to its head.
As for McCain, his problems were he had to 180 on a number of critical core issues from past statements. He suddenly became a strong Pro-Life advocate where in the past his convictions were not nearly as strong. It became easy for the Left to pick on the right leanings and difficult for him to defend given the history.
@ Kansas Bob - good to hear. Have to remind some of my friends that we are told to pray for our leaders, not just the ones we agree with.
@Deacon - She certainly didn't poll well with independents, but to say "many" with conservatives is not accurate. I haven't seen polling data on moderate republicans.
I think if handled properly and prepared better she could have done better. The Gibson and Couric interviews hurt her. She did well in the debates and the rest of the interviews were fine.
@Kent - Proposition 8 in CA, and the ballot initiatives in FL and AZ are the good news. As far as South Dakota is concerned, I haven't looked at what the language stated. Would it even do anything before Roe v. Wade is struck down?
You are right that McCain's past was problematic.
I was thinking in terms of the fact we saw several very conservative, intellectual folks in the public eye who were horried or at least pretty concerned about her.
My thought is that a "significant" number of conservatives were very upset with her being on the ticket. Doesn't mean they didn't support the ticket, but the fact they didn't like it was bound to percolate.
As for Palin's Oval Office readiness, I know we are about 180 degree apart on that, and I'm not going to hound you on that topic.

You are obviously very talented. Your hope is misplaced and he will disappoint. Every politician does regardless of party.
McCain really had no cache' - he was some old dude (72) with a girl as his VP - a girl VP that did not play well on tv and may people distrusted. You can disagree with that breakdown - but election numbers kind of back that - Obama won more than some thought he could - Palin was part of the voter decisions.
Obama is young and dynamic - and is the first African American President in USA history - it only took some 221 years and 40 years from the King Jr. speech - I call that some change in America. Obama also inspires people - he speaks to the hope of society and not it's lowest common denominators - fear and loathing. He is such a change I would almost call the guy a 180 change from what Bush is.
Last night was monumental and meaningful - for many people on this globe - and I cannot say that same thing if McCain had one.
