To speak a bit more plainly:

Gov't says "Hm, our programs don't work so well. But hey, that faith based one is! Alright! Let's give them money! But first, let's make sure they're just like our programs....."

I figure that if you've GOT to have the gov't funding soup kitchens, then you may as well have volinteer groups that already have stuff in place get a bit of help, instead of creating a bunch of jobs to fill the need-- which, because their jobs depend on the need, will not be solved.

Not sure I'm tracking with you.

My overall preference would be the federal government be small, so taxes are way low so people are more charitable. That way federal money isn't even an option or desired.

I also think that if FBOs opt out if it (whatever their mission is) is something God is calling them to do then He'll provide.

My stance right now is if the Feds give NGOs money, then FBOs need to be on equal footing and don't put so many restriction on them (like who they can hire) that they lose their identity as a result.

Somehow, I'm reminded of the folks who are driven out of places because the taxes are too high, the rules too restrictive and things are too loud.

They move to nice, quiet "vacation" areas...where they demand higher taxes to support the things they want, draft restrictions because folks are annoying them, and try to bring in more things because they're bored.....
